Business Risk Analysis

Each business venture faces risks. Theater productions are not an exception. However we believe that the risks facing this proposal are manageable and/or avoidable. We see nothing that would seriously threaten a more than profitable return.

Here are the major risks we anticipate and how, based on previous experience, we plan to deal with them.

  1. Not finding a Sponsoring Angel: When faced with this problem previously, we have developed a multi-sponsor strategy. This requires several donorship levels and benefits to those who offer funds to the company. There are other marketing and strategy tactics, such as accepting in-kind services to defray production or operating costs and advertising sales.

Please visit our Fundraising section to learn more about our goals.

  2. Not selling more than 70% of tickets for each night: Previous productions have been staged before a standing room only audience. (See Past Productions). Never the less, since tickets can be sold months ahead of actual production, there is ample time for adjustments. Such as shortening the run time of the production, which will in turn, reduce certain production costs. It is the responsibility of PASSIONPLACE PRODUCTIONS to secure through publicity, their contacts, and positive influences, the desired response from the community. Another approach that can be used to attract attendance to this endeavor is to choose a patron to sponsor special events. Members of the community mentioned in the productions would add publicity to each event. Patrons or Advisory Board Members, such as, Dominic Chianese, and other celebrities who support PassionPlace, can be featured at events.

  3. Similar events in production: On the contrary, the lack of activities of this nature is the one of the biggest assets in marketing this production. No theatrical productions of this nature are set for this community, nor in the communities we are visiting while on tour.

  4. Producer's ability to assemble a board of directors to produce 1975:The Underground Epic: It's the strongest link in this chain. Assembling a board of directors to produce over thirty productions has been the task of our Executive Director for the past ten years. The Hudson Valley & Buffalo regions have been, for the last decade, a pool of untapped talent in the U.S. PassionPlace has a history of award winning shows, has gained respect from many arts organizations and media in the area, has worked with Tony Award winning and Pulitzer Prize winning playwrights because of their superb ability to produce thought-provoking theatre, and has produced many original works over the years, remaining an integral force in the community.

  5. The theme of the production: Love, Birth, Spirituality & Consciousness are fundamental elements shared by all people. Furthermore, by sharing the vision of a young, African American male through his spoken word, and collaborating with a diverse group of artists and art technicians to bring this production to the stage, 1975:The Underground Epic becomes a written work that confronts and explores that which unifies all members of society. By taking what is considered to be a youth oriented, hip, urban artform (spoken word) and producing it live for the stage in a multi-media format allows gaps to be bridged, allowing this valuable artform to be witnessed and enjoyed by many who wouldn't ordinarily be exposed to same.
